James: Why do you specialize in teaching adults?
Celine: I specialize in teaching adults because I’ve developed passion for it. I’ve taught children when I was young and it was not a good experience at all for me because I find it very, very, very frustrating to have to sit next to a child that didn’t want to be there or are there because of their parents wanted them to learn the music, but I said they didn’t want. So it was a very bad experience for me. And the difference is, with the adults obviously, no one forced them, no one pushed them to come to the lesson and it makes all the difference.
James: I’ve been told that I’m tone deaf and that I can never learn to play the piano. Is this true and would it still be viable for me to attend?
Celine: Yes, of course. I don’t believe you are tone deaf, no one is. If you were, you wouldn’t be able to hear anything at all. So you would not make the difference between a dog and the engine of a car. It would be impossible. So yes, you are more than welcome to attend the lessons.
James: I used to play as a child and I want to rekindle my passion for piano playing. Is that something you can help me with?
Celine: Yes, absolutely, because actually most of my students when I met them first, the first thing that they told me is that they played when they were young and they wanted to start again basically. Most of them are preparing graded exams now or just simply playing again for their passion. I have to say they make good progress and are learning very well.
James: I have an extremely busy work schedule, and hence will not be able to practice every day. Can I still attend?
Celine: Yes, of course, because all my students actually have a very, very busy schedule and everybody find a time, just 10 minutes a day with more on the weekend, but everybody is able to make very good progress just with small amount of time as long as you just touch the piano in between lessons. But I adapt anyway to you and to the time that you’ve got, and then I never give you too much homework and just enough for you to make good progress without being able to practice it out. So yes, of course, you can attend lessons.
